The Delta North Youths today, Thursday 14th April, 2022, held her inaugural summit where the cerebral mother of Anioma Nation, HRM Obi Martha Dunkwu (Omu Anioma/Nneoha) was decorated as the Matron of the group in a well attended ceremony. She was decorated by the former Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and political leader in Ubulu clan, Chief (Dr) Chris Agbobu, who charged her to remain as an advocate of youth mentorship and development in Anioma land and beyond.
Omu Dunkwu while accepting the honour of being Mother to the group, charged the Youths to be the solution that is needed to move our country forward. She corrected some issues raised by the representative of the Police Commissioner that seventy percent of the crimes in Nigeria are committed by youths, saying that the Youths are never the problem of our country but only victims of the failure of leadership. Omu Dunkwu further urged the youths to jettison the idea that they would become future leaders by following their political leaders sheepishly, adding that all over the world, leadership is going younger and not the way it is in Nigeria with people sitting tight in power. According to her, “The youths are the ones to build the Nigeria of our dream; that Nigeria that will take us to the next positive level.
When they make you clapping members, dancing members, violent members, and say you are the future leaders whereas you have no education in your kitty, you are not broadminded, you are not incisive and you cannot dare beyond the ordinary, tell them to stop deceiving you. “You need education and you need to get involved patriotically to take over the reign of leadership. I am ready to support you and together we will change the bad system.
Our time is far spent; but yours is new dawn if you took up the challenge to bring salvation to our country and to your generation. I am an incurable optimist of a new Nigeria with the youths at the centre of leadership”, Obi Dunkwu posited. The Keynote lecture was delivered by the Special Guest of Honour and former Senate President of Nigeria, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim, who was ably represented by Alhaji Buhari Ahmed. While advocating that youths must be mindful of who they choose to be the next President of Nigeria ahead of 2023 General Elections, Anyim called on the Federal Government to as a matter of urgency employ other means to provide jobs to the youths to avoid foreseeable disaster. Earlier, the National Coordinator of Delta North Youths and former President of National Youth Council of Nigeria, Amb. Mayor Chiedu Enujeko had tasked leaders at all levels to give youths the chance to showcase their potentials towards rescuing Nigeria from political and economic challenges.
The Youth Leader affirmed that it took the body conscious and deliberate effort to brainstorm and come up with the theme of the Summit “Rethinking The Future Of The Nigerian Youths, Time For Action Is Now”, adding that there is no other time than now to leverage on the many potentials of youths. He said that youths have a wealth of energy and enthusiasm that already benefits society, yet often overlooked, adding that youths now have experiences far greater in rating than previous generations which can be leveraged on for a more prosperous nation. Other personalities, including Hon. Engr. Emeka Nwaobi who was equally decorated as Patron were also present and made comments on the future of Youth leadership from their own perspectives.
